Spieltape
Hello Alex! Why don’t you introduce yourselves to our listeners and tell us more about you? Where are you from?
Hello guys! Thanks for having me here, happy to be part of your podcasts. I'm Alexander Malyutin from Arkhangelsk city, which is in the North of Russia. I produce music as Spieltape and work with such labels as Moodmusic, Save Room, I Records, Stranjjur, etc. Also I'm label manager of the amazing Highway Records, which is my home label.
How did you get in touch with electronic music and how is it that you have decided to make your own project? What or who has inspired you to such a project?
I was a fan of electronic music since my childhood. I've come through IDM, trance and even hard techno before I finally reached house music. I've started Spieltape in 2006 with some melodic releases, inspired by stuff like Lawrence, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, James Holden and labels like Border Community, Kompakt, just to name a few. Now I'm more into deep house and tech house, but melodies are still very important for me.
What equipment do you use for creating your sets?
Everything's quite simple. Ableton for sets. And Logic for music production.
What are currently your five favourite tunes?
Oh, it's a difficult question. There's a lot of good music which I'm playing in my sets. But as for top tunes for the home listening — I can't listen anything but The Killers last album after their show in Helsinki. :)
Where do you normally discover new music?
I usually try to check out promos (but I'm not really good in it, because there are too much promos), tracks by my friends, my own ones and, of course, I buy new music on Beatport.
Where do you usually go for a drink?
To the bar, like everybody does I think. :) But I also like to have some drinks with my friends at home.
How do you imagine your future musical career?
Everything will be fine! Hope so.
Now one of my favourite questions: What was the craziest thing you’ve ever experienced when playing in a club or suchlike?
I'm not doing any live acts, but as for my sets — I always like to play in Moscow. Arma 17, Propaganda, Pravda are my favorite places to spin some records. People there are very open minded.
Would you like to get rid of something else?
Thanks for everybody for reading this and listening to my podcast!
